30 Things Before I Turn 30
Last week my best friend found a bucket list that she'd wrote 8 years prior, and she managed to actually tick a lot of those things off. It made me remember the list I'd made a couple of years ago, "30 Things Before I Turn 30", so I decided to have a read over it. I quickly realised that I hadn't done a single thing on the list, and honestly some of the things on there just don't interest me anymore. So, following my best friends lead, I re-wrote mine too. As I'm writing this I'm 23, so I have 7 years to tick off everything on this list - I want YOU to hold me accountable to make sure I actually do it this time!
30 THINGS BEFORE I TURN 30
1. Start saying yes to fun
If the shit-show we call 2020 taught me anything, it's that I need to start saying yes to fun! I spent 3 months inside my house unable to socialise and it made me realise how much I used to say no before. Life is just too damn short to spend every single night on my own watching Netflix.
2. Go to the Phuket Elephant Sanctuary in Thailand
Fact about me - Elephants are my favourite animals! I can't think of a better place on Earth to witness their beauty than at Phuket's first and only ethical Elephant sanctuary! There's no mud bathing, rides, shows or sitting on them allowed - we simply get to watch them roam around freely, bathe and socialise across the incredible 30 acres.
I've wanted to do this for the longest time! Each year I keep saying I'll do it but then life gets in the way and I put it back again. I would really love to do this in the next couple years for charity - and hopefully with my boyfriend. He did say a couple years ago that he wanted to do it with me, so fingers crossed.
4. Visit the French Quarter in New Orleans
I'm a sucker for incredible atmosphere and celebration, and honestly, New Orleans screams both of those things! I would love to visit the French Quarter during Mardi Gras!
5. Go to Santorini, Greece
I've pretty much wanted to go to Santorini ever since I watched The Sisterhood Of The Travelling Pants. It just looks like one of the most beautiful places on Earth and I want to experience it in its full glory.
6. Have a published article in a magazine or newspaper
To be honest I don't even know how I'd go about making this happen, but it's always been a goal of mine to have one of my pieces published on an established platform like Cosmo.
7. Go live on Instagram
This may seem like such a ridiculous goal, but I'm an Influencer and a being able to show your face on Instagram is a huge necessity when landing paid work. I finally built up the courage to do a couple chatty Insta stories, but my next goal is to go LIVE on Instagram. Not sure when that'll happen yet though because my anxiety is NOT on board.
8. Write a children's book
Being a children's book author isn't exactly the career I'm going after, but I started a children's Christmas book a few years ago and I would really love to finish it and create the art work for it. Even if it's just to give to my little cousins.
9. Run an International giveaway
I've ran the odd UK giveaway in the past, but I've always wanted to go all out with an International giveaway because I have so many readers from across the world. I'm aiming to do it either the end of this year or next year - I'm definitely not going to rush it though, because I want the prize to be of value for you!
10. Launch my online art store
If you follow me on Instagram, you may have seen that I'm currently planning to launch an online art store. I'm so excited for it! I've really been taking my time with this one because quite frankly, I want to start my business right - dotting all the i's and crossing all the t's.
11. Be able to hire a team
This is a slightly long term goal - I would love to be able to hire people to help with my business, whether that be my online store or my blog. I love the creative side of everything, but to be honest when it comes to the business and admin side of things, I'm like a fish out of water. Hopefully once I'm earning enough of an income I can outsource certain jobs so I can focus on the aspects I'm passionate about.
12. Do my dream photography project
I don't think I've actually ever shared any details of this to anyone... and I'm not going to now either. But I hope one day soon I can bring my vision to life and capture it beautifully. If it works out the way I hope - I think the project will be really powerful and inspiring.
13. Be a successful blogger
When I say successful I honestly just mean to keep going in the upwards direction I'm going now. I want you to keep loving the content I put out, and I want to continue to reach a bigger audience.
14. Publish an ebook
I may or may not be working on this right now actually. Stay tuned...
15. Open an art store in Liverpool
Owning my own little store has been a dream of mine since I was a child. This is probably one that'll happen closer towards the 30 mark, but I'm so excited! The current dream is to sell my own art, my photography, and that of local artists. I'd also want to host art workshops for young people and for those who suffer with mental health issues, as a way to give them somewhere safe to channel their emotions. I think it would be a really great way for me to give something back to my community.
16. Learn to be a little selfish
I'm the type of person that will say yes to something I don't want to do or that will make me unhappy, if it means I'm able to make someone else's life easier. I'm the type of person that will reschedule my plans to suit other people. I'm the type of person that will lend money when I can not afford to.
Doing those things is fine once in a while, but I tend to do put others before myself almost every day. My boyfriend has sort of been helping me see that being selfish isn't always a bad thing and that I have to start putting me first.
I don't think I can completely put myself before everyone all of the time, because it's just not in my nature, but I am going to try and say no a little more instead of compromising my happiness and well-being.
17. Allow myself to forgive
I'm holding on to A LOT of anger. Towards my old employers, doctors, my mum, old friends - even towards myself. I'm really trying to forgive though, because I know I deserve to be free of all of this anger and hurt I've collected over the years.
18. Take more online courses
I took a short online Journalism course last year and I actually really enjoyed it! I would love to take more to expand my knowledge and further my career.
19. Love my body
This is a tough one. Especially with how much I've been hating on myself recently. I'm trying, I really am.
20. Learn some self defence
My dad taught me a few bits when I was growing up that I've never forgotten, but since losing a lot of my strength in my dominant arm and with the world becoming more and more terrifying - I really want to take a self defence class. Just to feel a little safer and more prepared.
My goal: to reach Ross Geller's state of total awareness - UNAGI!
21. Improve my cooking skills
I'm actually quite good at cooking - but I want to experiment a little and try new recipes. I also want to create my own cookbook as I go so I can always have it in the kitchen.
22. Have financial freedom
I mean, is this not everyone's goal? I don't even care about being rich, I just want to be able to live without worrying how I'll stretch my money until my next pay day. Which is how I'm currently living and IT SUCKS!
23. Get our own home
I want me and James to move in to our own home, get a cute little kitten and adopt a beautiful dog. That would be my happiness right there.
24. Be able to buy an apple imac
My current laptop is only about 6 months old but it's not the BEST. My goal is to be doing so well financially that I can walk into the apple store and buy an imac IN CASH. I'll definitely be wearing a boss bitch outfit on that day!
25. Pay for a professional photoshoot
My Instagram game isn't all that strong - mainly because I hate taking pictures of myself. I'm just not photogenic in the slightest. But I want to step out of my comfort zone and hire a professional to do a shoot with me. I already have my eye on the incredible Alice Lucy Bradley. Maybe I'll take the leap soon.
26. Be a great role model for my little cousins
My auntie Sue has always been such a role model to me my entire life, now she has two beautiful, intelligent and charismatic daughters and I can only hope that I'll be half the role model to them as my auntie is to me. And then I have my Uncles daughter who is quickly growing into a beautiful young woman, and I hope I'm being the kind of woman she can look to.
27. Host a dinner party
When I have my own house I really want to host a couple dinner parties! I'm not sure exactly how happy my boyfriend will be about that, but I'm sure we could manage one or two.
28. More self care
I do not practice self care enough! I recently started a new skin care routine, but I want to start carving time out of my day or week for meditation, pampers, etc. We only get one body, I should be spending time taking care of it.
29. Sell my unwanted clothes
I have a ridiculous amount of clothes, half of which I wouldn't be able to tell you the last time I wore them. I really need to shift them all, and I don't see why I shouldn't try and make some extra cash whilst I'm at it.
30. Have a themed 30th birthday party
The last thing to do on this list - have a huge 30th party! I've always wanted to have a themed one. Maybe something along the lines of a masquerade, or a Monte Carlo theme, or maybe even a ball. Basically I want to wear a stunning gown that I'd never have the chance to wear anywhere else.
. . .
