30 Things Before I Turn 30

Updated: Sep 17, 2019

At the beginning of the year I was feeling pretty conflicted in life, and I lost sight of what I wanted and what was important. The reality of not having much money really started to take it's toll on my mental health and drained all desire I had to be productive. After having a couple (or ten) breakdowns, receiving advice and kind words from the blogging community, and having a chat with James, I decided to take a break to gather my thoughts and think about what I really wanted.

I considered the possibility of going back to working in a shitty job, but the uncertainty and unpredictability of my health, causes a bit of a problem there. Honestly though, even if I could, I wouldn't want to; because why would I voluntarily dedicate my life to something that has a detrimental effect on my health, my mind and my happiness? So that left me back at square one - unemployed, broke and dreaming of being a successful blogger. Being able to run my blog for a living is something I have wanted to do for years and I've learnt that it's fucking hard work. At one point I started to believe that I just wasn't good enough to make it, and that I was wasting my time. I came to realise though that putting my happiness first and chasing my dreams, no matter how long it takes, is never a waste of time.

When I asked myself what I wanted, there was only one answer - to be happy. I decided that I was simply going to follow my heart, and do what makes me happy. Whilst taking a break at the start of the year to get some kind of clarity, I decided to write a list of everything I wanted to do before I turned 30, and I ended up finding it really therapeutic and it was actually what led me to create this new site. It was a pretty long list, but I decided that I'd narrow it down to 30 things so that I could share it with you all.

Learn to play the guitar

...I've been saying this for years, it's about time I actually do it!

Go on a road trip

...anywhere. I just want to go on a long, fun road trip.

...I was supposed to be doing it this year, but I think it's looking more like next year. I'll be doing it to raise money for Mind, so keep your eye out for that!

Have a thriving business

...by thriving, I don't mean raking in a million a year - although I wouldn't be mad at that - simply want to live comfortably and be happy with my own level of success.

Go camping

...I haven't been camping since I was a kid and I miss it so much. But my cousin best believe we're going camping as soon as she get's her license!

Make a house a home with James

...this is one I'm pretty excited about achieving. I can't wait to have our own home, get a kitten and puppy, and just be able to wake up to the love of my life every day.

Publish an ebook

...ah I've been trying to write an ebook for the past 2 years. I just never seem to get further than the brain storming part, because my brain is like "no one's going to read this shit Han". What kind of ebook would you like to see? Let me know in the comments below.

Go zip-lining

...you know the kind where you're face down, and you go over something extraordinary like a jungle or snowy mountains.

Go to a drive-in cinema

...I've wanted this since I watched Grease as a kid. Who didn't?

Do an escape room game

...they look so fun! I'll have to try and drag James or my best friends to one this year!

Visit Dublin, Ireland

...I can't remember exactly what made me constantly dream of going to Ireland, but I do, and I can't wait for the opportunity to go.

Write a children's Christmas book

...I started writing one last Christmas but for some reason I didn't finish it. I'd love to, because I thought the story was pretty damn magical.

Submit an article to a magazine

...isn't this a goal for most bloggers? I don't even know where to start, but I'd love to see my writing published on an established platform.

Carve a pumpkin

...can you believe I've never carved a pumpkin? I will, for sure, have to try it this year. Does anyone have any carving tips for me?

Pay off all the money I owe

...I hate owing money. I'm longing for the day when I don't have to worry about that.

Print photo's and create a scrapbook album

...I'm such a sentimental gal, and I've been wanting to create a scrapbook for a long time now. I might invest in one in a few weeks.

Have a weekend getaway at a cabin/lodge

...with no internet! How amazing would it be to just forget the rest of the world exists for a weekend, and clear your mind?

Take part in more charity fundraisers

...I've took part in a couple in the past but I'd love to do more. In fact, next week I'm taking part in the Race For Life for Cancer Research UK. It's an incredible cause that is extremely close to my heart. If you'd like to sponsor me, you can do so here. Every little bit helps towards the fight to end cancer.

Watch the sunrise and set

...preferably with a cute picnic.

Start a Youtube channel

...I've wanted to do this or a really long time but I've never had the confidence to do it. I'm more of a 'stay behind the camera' kind of person, but you never know.

See the Northern Lights

...I mean, it looks absolutely breath-taking just on photo's, so I'd love to see it in person.

Continue writing my movie script

...when I was severely depressed in 2017, I began writing a movie script and it was something that greatly helped in the road to getting better. I doubt anything will ever come of it, but I'd love to finish it as a way to close that chapter of my life.

Visit Santorini, Greece

...I'm not being a basic 20 something girl who just wants to tell Instagram that I went to Santorini. I've actually dreamt of going there since watching The Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants 2, way back in 2008.

Ride in a helicopter

...I just think it'd be pretty fucking cool.

Bungee jump

...another thing I've wanted to do since my early teens. Just not over water - that shit would give me a panic attack!

Actually do my dream photography project

...since playing around with photography last year, I've had a vision for a project that I would absolutely love to bring to life. I think it'd be a really powerful, and possibly life-changing experience for me - and hopefully for others.

Sell what I don't need

...I tried selling my old clothes at the beginning of the year, but I couldn't part with them. I just need to get it over with and have a big garage sale... but not in a garage because I don't have one.

Run an international giveaway

...I've ran a few giveaways but only in the UK, due to delivery costs and all. But 2 thirds of my audience are from the rest of the world, so I'd love to give something back to them. If you're a blogger who has successfully ran an international giveaway, please hit me up!

Have a penpal

...I think it'd be so cool in the current world of social media, to actually hand write a letter and post it to someone half way across the world.

Spend as much time with the people I love as I can

...this is such an important one to me. I don't want to regret the time I didn't spend with my loved ones whilst they're in my life.

I have just under 8 years until I turn 30, which is crazy, but it's plenty of time to do the things that will set my soul on fire!

What do you want to do before you turn 30 or even 40?

Love, Han
