Bloggers Uncensored: with Cherishing Flo
Welcome to this weeks Bloggers Uncensored! This is my longest running blog series, and definitely my favourite. This series is a perfect opportunity to read your favourite bloggers' honest and uncensored opinions on real life topics, and to discover new bloggers that you can start following! This weeks blogger is Cherishing Flo.
Tell us a little about yourself.
Hello! I am a social media manager & consultant who also LOVES blogging and creating videos about self development and growth. I like to help uplift other people. I LOVE horses and watching comedy movies. I also have both a blog AND two YouTube channels as well so you could say I'm a busy bee.
Why do you write?
I write because it's been a passion of mine since I was 7. I wrote my first song when I was in 4th grade and started writing my first 'book' when I was in 5th grade (it was about vampires and werewolves lol). Writing has always been something I've wanted to do!
Why did you start blogging?
I started blogging because I wanted a way to share my writings with the world and be more personable. It wasn't until I got into it that I realised how influential I could be through my blog and I wanted to explore that and uplift and inspire my girl bosses as much as I could.
What do you love about the blogging world/community?
I LOVE that the blogging community is so interactive. I've met SO many amazing people due to my blogging experience. And it's really great how supportive other bloggers are to each other.
What do you hate about the blogging world/community?
I don't think there's anything I hate about the blogging community to be honest. I haven't had any bad experiences with other bloggers.
In your opinion, who are the most underrated bloggers?
What are some hard truths you have learnt about life?
I've learned the hard way that not everyone you love or care about it going to reciprocate that same energy.
What does freedom mean to you?
Freedom to me means being able to do whatever I want, whenever I want.
What are your thoughts on mental health and how it's portrayed in today's society?
Mental Health is MAJORLY important. I am an entrepreneur who suffers from anxiety and depression and I feel it is not enough spoken out about in both the black community and the entrepreneur community. You are NOT any less of a girl boss if you suffer from mental illnesses and soooo many people don't know that because the narrative is not shared enough. Mental health I feel is represented a lot in college students or 9-5 workers but I don't feel I've sent it represented enough in women who are independent, making boss moves, but suffering from these things as well.
What are your thoughts on feminism and how it's portrayed in today's society?
I am a feminist. However, I am not a hardcore feminist. I feel as if feminism is portrayed poorly in society because SOME women choose to be offended by every single thing and sometimes even put down women who choose to take on more old fashioned female roles. The whole point of feminism should be that a female should be able to be who she wants. And not even other women should have a say in that. Unfortunately it's the feminists who portray it incorrectly that seems to speak the loudest and that's why I rarely speak on the issue because I will hurt my fellow ladies feelings and I'm trying to be a nicer person.
What are your thoughts on 'Love is Love' and how it's portrayed in today's society?
Love is love. And love is ALWAYS beautiful. I literally could care less about who other people choose to love. I am a Christian and I believe any REAL Christian will not try and condemn or judge or decide who others are allowed to love without also trying to 'convert' them as if any other sexual orientation other than straight is a religion. It's not. And quite frankly, it's none of my business who anyone else loves and I feel like the rest of society needs to start minding their own business as well.
What advice would you give to someone who is fighting a mental illness?
I would say don't give up the fight, but don't be ashamed of it either. You're not alone and one of the most comforting notions to hear is that there are others going through the same thing. I leave my door open for ANYONE who ever needs to talk.
What advice would you give to someone who is being bullied or harassed?
I was bullied a lot in elementary school and I didn't handle it well. Bullies bully you because they are threatened by you. My best advice is to show them that despite how they try, they can't break you. Defend yourself, but also don't let them turn you into a bitter or angry person. I fought back and in turn became a violent person for a long time but you don't have to become that person. Protect yourself but also show them they can't change the special light you have within you. And when they are older and you are older those same people will be impressed by what you're doing with your life and will want to try and be friends. It's the circle of life.
If you could rid the world of one thing, what would it be?
What else do you feel strongly about?
I feel strongly about positivity, entrepreneurship, self love, and honesty. But I also feel VERY strongly about overcoming abuse trauma.
Let's end this with some fun 'This or That' questions;
Love or money?
Work hard or play hard?
Work hard, unfortunately I am a workaholic lol.
Cups in the cupboard: right side up or upside down?
UPSIDE DOWN. You don't want dust and particles IN your cup do you?!
Chocolate or sex?
Plan everything or wing it?
Wing it, I LOVE planning but I tend to make my biggest decisions strictly on intuition.
Happiness or money?
Happiness. That is and always will be the biggest thing for me.
