Bloggers Uncensored: with Gray Gloria
Welcome to this weeks Bloggers Uncensored! If this is your first time reading a BU interview, this is my longest running blog series, and definitely my favourite. This series is a perfect opportunity to read your favourite bloggers' honest and uncensored opinions on real life topics, and to discover new bloggers to follow! This weeks blogger is Gray Gloria.
Tell us a little about yourself.
I am a blogger located in Rochester, NY where I have a degree in New Media Marketing from the Rochester Institute of Technology where I met my husband who I love to bug. When I am not bothering him, I love to paint as well as bake. (p.s. Rochester is home to the Garbage Plate and I one hundred percent recommend it.)
Why do you write?
I write because I have found that it is quite therapeutic to write about things I enjoy. At the end of a tough week I find so much joy just writing about things that interest me with the freedom to choose any topics I want.
Why did you start blogging?
I started blogging as a way to deal with my anxiety.
What do you love about the blogging world/community?
What I love about the blogging community is the willingness to help others. Everyone wants to see the others succeed and find happiness in their blogging, and everyone has been so welcoming.
What do you hate about the blogging world/community?
Nothing so far, ask me again in a few months.
What are some hard truths you have learnt about life?
That life is a lot shorter than you think, and you really have to appreciate the time you have with the ones you love.
What does freedom mean to you?
To me freedom means being able to be happy with the choices you make without fear of repercussions.
What are your thoughts on mental health and how it's portrayed in today's society?
I think mental health is still treated as a taboo instead of an illness that needs to be treated such as diabetes. People with mental health problems can not just snap their fingers and be good to go. I feel many ignorant people view mental health illness as a choice, which it is far from.
What are your thoughts on feminism and how it's portrayed in today's society?
I think just like any movement there are individuals that may take things too far and that is what mainstream non-supporters will focus on. I still feel there is not across the board equality in terms of gender and that is something that does need to be addressed.
What are your thoughts on 'Love is Love' and how it's portrayed in today's society?
I am a firm believer that as long as the individuals involved are consenting adults then love is love. Why should I have a say in another's relationship when it has no effect on my life, and the individuals are bother happy and in agreement.
What advice would you give to someone who is fighting a mental illness?
To know that better days are around the corner and that you just have to keep moving because before you know it you will be exactly where you want to be.
What advice would you give to someone who is being bullied or harassed?
If you are being bullied or harassed do not stay quiet, tell anyone you feel comfortable turning to and do not cover for that person. Not only are you helping yourself, but you are ensuring that the bully/harasser is getting the care they need as well because people don't just become bullies, usually they are being mistreated as well.
If you could rid the world of one thing, what would it be?
Judgement. If I could rid the world of the need to judge others then I feel that world would be a kinder place.
What else do you feel strongly about?
As someone who grew up very religious and still is, I wish others would realise that it's not okay to force others to follow your beliefs, I choose to follow my beliefs, but in no way is it okay for me to force my beliefs and rules on to others.
Let's end this with some fun 'This or That' questions:
Love or money?
Work hard or play hard?
Cups in the cupboard: right side up or upside down?
Right side, duh.
Chocolate or sex?
Plan everything or wing it?
Happiness or money?
. . .
