Bloggers Uncensored: with Leooooo | The Anxious Teacher
Welcome to this weeks Bloggers Uncensored! If this is your first time reading a BU interview, this is my longest running blog series, and definitely my favourite. This series is a perfect opportunity to read your favourite bloggers' honest and uncensored opinions on real life topics, and to discover new bloggers to follow! This weeks blogger is Leooooo | The Anxious Teacher.
Tell us a little about yourself.
My name is Leo, I'm a 26 year old Blogger, BPD Survivor and a full time Humanities Teacher living in the South of England. I blog all things to do with my everyday life as a teacher as well as my daily struggles with battling Borderline Personality Disorder with a bit of lifestyle, current affairs and Disney all mixed in.
Why do you write?
Writing is my therapy, it is my voice when I have no physical words.
Why did you start blogging?
I started blogging whilst I was in psychiatric home treatment following a very extreme suicide attempt, I've always been the type of person to bottle up all of my thoughts and emotions until I explode - when I'm at that stage of the tipping point it tends to take something as little as the toilet seat being left up for my mind to go wild and I've completely lost it.
What do you love about the blogging world/community?
The one thing I genuinely love about blogging is the openness and acceptance of so many people across the world, people who you'd never meet in real life sharing their struggles with you and being so generous to give you support and vice versa. I honestly feel that the blogging community are my family and the bestest friends I could ever ask for.
What do you hate about the blogging world/community?
There are a small few that go out of their way to make lewd and degrading comments, or even troll, luckily I haven't faces that. However, if you don't like what I write, you don't have to read it. Simple.
In your opinion, who are the most underrated bloggers?
I mean if you say yourself its probably egotistical, but my favourite blogger who I think if the most loving and genuine person I've met through Twitter has to be Nyxie's Nook.
What are some hard truths you have learnt about life?
Life is a fucking bitch.
What does freedom mean to you?
To just be me.
What are your thoughts on mental health and how it's portrayed in today's society?
In one sense I'm grateful that there is a reason behind how and why I act and behave in a certain way and having my diagnosis of BPD has given me the chance to learn how to adapt and to continue on with my life. On the other hand, I do think its become somewhat of a fashion label as an excuse that some do use to take advantage and for someone who struggles 24/7 and when I see or hear people manipulate Mental Health it just makes me so angry. We are not a fashion label, we are human.
What are your thoughts on feminism and how it's portrayed in today's society?
Feminism? I do think there are multiple sides to feminism and I do believe everyone should be treated fairly no matter their gender however for it to truly work we must get rid of double standards. For example if a man was to judge a woman on their looks there would be mass hysteria, yet its ok for women to do it? Also, why do women have to get their boobs out all the time yet its seen as pornographic for men to show off their penis in film and television?
What are your thoughts on 'Love is Love' and how it's portrayed in today's society?
I think everyone deserves love and to be happy and fulfilled in a loving relationship if its heterosexual or gay or whatever, however I feel personally uncomfortable with huge age gaps, like the whole 30+ age gaps etc. I also don't understand polyamory, it doesn't mean it shouldn't happen I just don't understand it which is why I'm open to conversations about it etc.
What advice would you give to someone who is fighting a mental illness?
You are not a statistic, a burden on family and the NHS and so forth. You are human, the thoughts and emotions and the acts you are committing do not mean you are a horrible person. If I can get through this, so can you. Listen to your doctor, listen to the counsellors, psychiatrists, joining online forums, read up on Mental Health, start a conversation with those in the Twitter Mental Health Community because no matter what you are not alone.
What advice would you give to someone who is being bullied or harassed?
According to many so called 'experts' people who bully are normally acting in a particular manner to exert power and dominance because they have no control in their own lives. In my opinion, from someone who has been bullied, I do call bullshit because the only person that control your life is you. So if you are getting bullied or harassed you should always speak up, find someone that you can speak with be it a friend, teacher or employment union.
If you could rid the world of one thing, what would it be?
Right now? The Australian bush fires, it breaks my heart seeing all the koalas fighting for survival and left with horrific burns and their fur all singed off.
What else do you feel strongly about?
I was super let down with Frozen 2, I was really hoping that representation in Disney movies.
Let's end this with some fun 'This or That' questions:
Love or money?
Both? I could easily argue for both due to personal circumstances.
Work hard or play hard?
Cups in the cupboard: right side up or upside down?
Right side up.
Chocolate or sex?
Chocolate all the way.
Plan everything or wing it?
Happiness or money?
. . .
