Bloggers Uncensored: with Rose Tinted Ramblings
Welcome to this weeks Bloggers Uncensored! This is my latest and favourite blog series that I've created. This series is an opportunity to read your favourite bloggers' honest and uncensored opinions on real life topics. This weeks blogger is Rose Tinted Ramblings.
Tell us a little about yourself.
I'll be 52 in November...eek. My son will be 22...double eek. I run a B&B, I'm a stained glass artiest, gardener and cook. I've been happily unmarried to my partner John for 24 years. I love my rural life which began 14 years ago by happy accident.
Why do you write?
I write for my sanity. If I'm ironing, gardening or watching TV (and sometimes during sex, oops), thought trains pop into my head and punch and fight around in there battering my conscience until they get out. So it's paper and pen by the bed or a dash to the computer to let it all tumble out.
Why did you start blogging?
I started blogging thinking I would write a series following the process of my pink classic hillman husky (car), Floyd's restoration. But it didn't happen. Just as an opening post. It say there for ages doing nothing and then I just started using it to empty my brain...much more cathartic.
What do you love about the blogging world/community?
I have met so many interesting writers, come across so many great conversations and view points. I've found help, empathy, and things I'd never thought about before.
What do you hate about the blogging world/community?
It's so huge and so difficult to keep up. I'm always worried I'm missing something.
In your opinion, who are the most underrated bloggers?
Here are just three of my faves:
I love the ways Katy, Enda and Lucy write. I feel like it just flows out of their head with minimal editing. Nice and real, sometimes gritty, sometimes light, sometimes entertaining, sometimes though provoking.
What are some hard truths you have learnt about life?
Power corrupts. Politicians and world leaders are only interested in themselves and staying on top. The world is controlled by a greedy and selfish minority.
[Han here, just want to quickly say that the previous answer is the realest shit I've ever read!]
What does freedom mean to you?
Being able to be true to myself.
What are your thoughts on mental health and how its portrayed in today's society?
It's slowly heading in the right direction. People seem to be more inclined to discuss and share their struggles. The world of blogging has been great for this, Social care and professional support still has a long way to go.
What are your thoughts on feminism and how it's portrayed in today's society?
I think women have so much more power and opportunity these days. It will always be a struggle because it's women who gave birth and women who has to worry about 'running out of time' if they want both career and kids.
I'm also saddened and fearful of the regression in women's rights with the rise of alt right political agendas.
What are your thoughts on 'Love is Love' and how it's portrayed in today's society?
Do you mean in terms of respect to any sexual orientation? In which case, everyone to their own as long as it's consensual. What people do in their private lives is entirely up to them. There are so many 'alternative' heterosexual sexual practices we don't dwell on but we seem fascinated by same sex, gender neutral, trans etc etc and their practices. Be happy. Love who you want.
What advice would you give to someone who is fighting a mental illness?
Be open. Trust your social network of friends and family. Don't be ashamed.
What advice would you give to someone who is being bullied or harassed?
This is a tough one. I was bullied through school and there was no solution or support then and there doesn't seem to be any more these days. It's very scary.
If you could rid the world of one thing, what would it be?
What else do you feel strongly about?
There is so much to feel strongly about these days, it so often leads me to despair. Advocacy, support and respectful car for our ever aging population. The safety of young children and young adults in a world heavily distorted and influenced by social media. The rate at which we are destroying our plant. Donald Trump. The rise of fascism. The human race seems to be hitting every self destruct button it can.
Sometimes the scale of the mess and the helplessness I feel towards it all can be overwhelming. It's so easy to hide away from it because the problems are so big to comprehend and those in power are too greedy to change.
Mostly I start with the small stuff. Educating my own kids, advocating for elderly neighbours, changing my own shopping habits.
Scary times I feel. Sorry about the massive downer.
Let's end this with some fun 'This or That' questions:
Love or money?
Love. Without a doubt. Never been money motivated. Definitely an old romantic.
Work hard or play hard?
Both in equal measures.
Cups in the cupboard: right side up or upside down?
Right side up.
Chocolate or sex?
Tough choice. Depends on the company!!
Plan everything or wing it?
Happiness or money?
Happiness. Money can't buy it.
. . .
