Q&A: get to know me better
I can't believe I'm finally getting around to doing a Q&A! I've been saying I'll do one since I started this site, 9 months later and we're finally here. I've been busy doing other blog commitments this week so I thought a Q&A would be a quick and easy post for me to write up. It was pretty last minute, so I just want to say thank you to those who sent in questions so quick I really appreciate it. p.s. I'm not all that interesting, so proceed at your own risk.
How's 2020 going?
It could be better, but it could be a lot worse. If you don't already know (if you don't - why aren't you reading my blog man? You're missing out), I have a condition called Dystonia which affects my right arm. There's recently been a change in treatment so I'm more limited and in a lot more pain than I was in last year, but I'm trying to stay focused on my blog.
How did you get into blogging?
I originally got into blogging 8 years ago because my cousins created one and I thought it looked fun. It was a far cry away from the quality of this one - it was called Pretty Little Vampires and it was about two TV series called Pretty Little Liars and The Vampire Diaries. I was such a cool kid, can you tell?
I've had quite a few blogs over the years, but I started to take it more seriously in 2018 after I was left unable to work due to my arm. I needed a way to channel my pain, depression and anxieties. Then when I got diagnosed with Dystonia and realised that recovery wasn't on the cards for me, I shut down my blog and I created this site from scratch in the hopes of turning it into my career.
What advice do you have for other bloggers struggling?
I wrote a blog post with a few pieces of advice, but the main thing I want you to remember is that you have to be yourself. It's so easy to start comparing yourself to other bloggers who seem to be thriving and getting paid opportunities left, right and center, but I can guarantee you that they've also been where you are right now. The worst thing you can do is try to get yourself out of a rut by becoming just like those successful bloggers. They didn't get where they are by being like everyone else, they stayed true to themselves and made sure to inject their personality in everything they did.
If you're becoming successful by pretending to be someone you're not, what's the point?
Who are the best bloggers to follow on Twitter?
I make a conscious decision to only follow bloggers that spread love and support throughout our community, but if I had to choose a few of my current faves:
@sophie_sierra: I can't even remember how long I've been following Sophie for, she is an absolute ray of sunshine in the community. This stunning angel blows my mind with her writing ability, her confidence and her kind heart. Sophie isn't just one of my favourite people in the community, but one of my favourite people I've ever had the pleasure of speaking to. She is a precious diamond and needs to be protected at all costs!
@niccshortt: I absolutely adore Nicole. Never have I met someone so willing to help and support a complete stranger. I remember when I was really struggling with my mental health and staying on social media was becoming so draining, Nicole appeared in my DM's and gave me her personal phone number, so that I could take a break from social media and still have someone to talk to. I always feel as though she's in my corner, and I will be forever grateful to her for that.
@ellieblakeney: I only recently discovered Ellie, but she has quickly become one of my favourite females on the internet. I was sort of stuck in a rut when it came to my Instagram and brand collaborations etc, but then I started following Ellie and it was crazy, it was like she unknowingly kicked my ass into gear. Since following her I've become more focused, determined and confident in my Influencer abilities and capabilities.
What keeps you motivated?
I don't have the easiest of times staying motivated, so I try to find different reasons to continue being focused. Right now my biggest source of motivation is my desire to be a good role model to my little cousins. I've been through a tough time and life hasn't been going the way I wanted it to, but I wake up every day and decide to create the life I want. I want to show them that they can be anyone they want to be no matter what life throws at them.
How do you stay organised?
Organised? What's that?
I'm so bad at being organised, but I'm hoping that will change once I've finished my home office.
Do you have any big life aspirations?
I just want to be happy in what I'm doing. I think that's all I need.
What is your daily routine?
I wake up - check my phone - go back to sleep - wake up - have a cup of tea and breakfast - brush my teeth and shower - then wing it.
What are your opinions on the Jameela Jamil stuff?
I've only seen bits in passing on Twitter, so I don't have an opinion on the situation. I tend to steer clear from all celebrity drama, that shit plays with my mental health.
What is your favourite book?
I'm not a massive reader, but my favourite one is a romantic-comedy called The Bucket List to Mend a Broken Heart by Anna Bell. Patiently waiting for it to be made into a movie. That would be a HIT!
What is your favourite film?
Favourite of all time - Dirty Dancing.
What is your favourite food?
Hardest question ever! I can't choose just one. I love a chicken roast dinner with all the trimmings. I love chicken quesadilla's. I love sausage, chips and gravy from the chippy.
Tea or coffee?
Tea. No question.
What is your ideal date?
Hm, I love dates that someone has put effort into. I'd take a candlelit dinner at home over a restaurant any day.
Do you have anymore tattoos planned?
Just one more! I'm currently saving for it and then I'm happy to stick at 14.
I hope you learnt a little more about me!
